good morning, it's thursday, november 3. i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. there was a game last night, what? >> you said if you're a baseball fan you could appreciate it? i'm not a baseball fan but i appreciate it. >> even if you're not an a's fan but i have to tell you, a's, it was zobrist, russell, davis, coco crisp all in the series last night. good morning, let's take a look at the temperatures out the door this morning. this will wake you up. numbers in the 50s and 40s. later today it will be an awesome autumn day in the 60s and 70s. rain is coming but right now let's say good morning to roqui theus. >> good morning, roberta. let's talk about the bay bridge toll plaza here. once 5:30 hits the metering lights will turn on but as of now no delays into the city. carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will take you about 18 minutes. now, moving to the san leandro area where we have two situations here. northbound 880 at davis street,

there's a two-car crash off to the shoulder. up northbound 880 there's some roadwork. heavy delays, cars in the area at just 5 miles per hour. it should be clearing up around 6 a.m. so we'll keep you posted on that clearing up. now down 880 to the san mateo bridge, to 101 will just take a quick 15 minutes. i'll send it to you. >> all right, roqui. thank you. developing this morning, investigators will be out at sonoma state university later this morning after human remains were found in a shallow grave off campus grounds. authorities are asking students and others to stay way from the area. susie steimle has the story. >> reporter: we're here in lot m near the green music center on campus. this is not far from where police are telling us this body was discovered just after 12:00 p.m. on wednesday. it was in this heavily wooded area, which is now blocked off by crime scene tape. we're told it was a landscaper who discovered the body and based on its condition at this point, it does seem to have

been a recent event. police are saying, there are no reports of missing people in this area. but they will do a full report starting at 8:00 this morning. >> crime scene investigators will come out and they will start a slow methodical unearthing and to -- to make sure they don't disturb the crime scene and collect the evidence to try and solve what happened. >> reporter: we're at sonoma state university. i'm susie steimle, kpix 5. the election is now 5 days away. and this morning, the latest poll shows two battleground states are up for grabs. according to quinnipiac university, hillary clinton leads donald trump by just one point in florida. and clinton is just 3 points ahead in north carolina. and that's exactly why both hillary clinton and donald trump will make appearances in those states today. they are even calling in their top surrogates to help. in arizona yesterday, clinton painted a picture of trump as

president while trump spent the day in florida hammering clinton over the fbi inquiry into her email scandal. >> imagine having a president who demeans women, mocks the disabled, insults latinos, african-americans, muslims, pows. >> if hillary clinton were to be elected, it would create an unprecedented and protracted constitutional crisis. >> campaigning for clinton in north carolina yesterday, president obama urged people to get out and vote early. >> i hate to put a little pressure on ya, but the fate of the republic rests on your shoulders! are working the phone bank. andria borba reports. >> reporter: for all of their differences, democrats and republicans are doing the exact same thing. they are phone banking just not in the golden state. >> right now they are calling arizona. >> we are call outside of california. california is going to vote for clinton. >> reporter: while volunteers are getting out the vote, registrar officers are preparing for novemberle with a new way to pick up ballots on november 8. in solano and santa clara counties, ballots will be picked up at midday from precincts to get them counted early. >> all our machinery will be working 24 hours a day with staff counting ballots until we go final. >> reporter: the ballot pickup will be happening in yolo county. no sleep for the election workers. no sleep for the volunteers. >> last night, we had an overflow crowd here of people streaming in to stay where can

hold you back for a long time. >> reporter: with the drought now over, plans for an epic victory parade are under way. marlie hall, cbs news, cleveland, ohio. president obama tweeted the cubs to congratulate them on their win. he also asked want to come to the white house before i leave? for anybody planning a walk by the beach today the coast guard is warning watch out. waves could be as high as 20 feet. so coast guard crews are urging extreme caution if you get close to the water. here's roberta with a look at weather. >> it's a lot to talk about whether it's the water or the game last night. we were texting each other until -- all three of us until about 10:00 last night. so inspirational. jason heyward the hey, if you have a consumer complaint or hey-hayman. he wasn't inspirational with the bat but he gathered everybody in the weight room and said we can do it. >> that was during the rain delay. >> he gathered everybody so

[ laughter ] we are going into an inspirational forecast. it's going to be glorious today wall-to-wall sunshine but out the door this morning another cool start. it's 48 in livermore, 48 in redwood city, cool in santa rosa. okay. as kenny was alluding to, he is the surfer on staff, we do have high swells today up to 20, 27 feet. so there will be some sneaker waves and dangerous rip currents. so stay out of the water. stay onshore where the temperatures are going to be slightly above average, 70 in half moon bay. low 70s common around the peninsula today. up to the mid-70s in morgan hill and in gilroy. then we whip around to the eastern portion of our bay area, 70s will be common, 72 in

brentwood. 74 degrees discovery bay. low 70s will be common around the carquinez strait and north bay numbers will stack up from 67 degrees in stinson beach to 73 in novato. full forecast featuring big- time changes for your weekend. that's coming up in a matter of minutes. but right now, another one who stayed up late last night. here's roqui. >> i did. i did. like i said, i'm not your biggest baseball fan but i had fun watching the game so it was great to see. time is 4:39. let's head to the altamont pass out of tracy at just about 50 miles per hour. so this is not too bad for your altamont traffic this morning heading into north flynn road that's about 37 miles per hour then frees up through livermore on to the dublin interchange. altamont pass to 680 will take you about 14 minutes. now moving over to the san leandro area, here we have a crash and some roadwork. northbound 880 at davis street, it's a two-car crash off to the shoulder. not causing too many delays, but as you head up that roadwork going on that will be clearing up around 6 a.m. is causing people to drive at just 6 miles per hour in the

area. so i hope you don't get stuck in that as you head out the door. moving over to a live look at the nimitz now in both directions looking good. san leandro 238 to the maze will take you up to 30 minutes right now so pretty slow already and it's just 4:40. i'll send it to you. too early for that, roqui. when traffic gets this bad on bay area highway, you would think things were worse in l.a. but a study shows they have it better than we do. mark sayre breaks down the myth. >> reporter: you don't have to look far during rush hour in silicon valley to see the gridlock from highway 101 through sunnyvale and mountain view to highway 237 in milpitas, to highway 280 in downtown san jose, but now a new study makes a surprising finding. more people with long megacommutes drive into and out of the valley than they do in los angeles. >> that surprise you? >> not at all. >> why not? >> um, i used to live down near the l.a. area and it's just about as bad as here that it is down there. >> reporter: the intersection

of 280 and 680 here in downtown san jose is a prime example of this problem. the study found that about half of commuters to silicon valley come from outside the area from places like san francisco, alameda and san joaquin counties. this of course one of the primary ways out of the valley at the end of the day. >> it's pretty bad. between 3:00 and let's say 8:00, you can't get anywhere. >> reporter: the study was conducted by joint venture silicon valley a regional think tank of public, private and academic leaders. any commute over 90 minutes one way is considered a mega- commute and more than 5% of drivers in silicon valley face that each and every day. that's nearly a full percentage point than in l.a. drivers say they feel the l.a. style commuting pain. >> it's very bad especially

seven" phones. as k-p-i-x five's betty yu a lawyer says samsung is experiencing more fallout from troubles that forced it to recall its galaxy note 7 phones. as betty yu reports, a california lawyer says that there arish additional problems the company needs to address. >> reporter: this is what's left of a samsung s6 with its battery badly damaged and here's another example of an s6 that blew up. >> at one point, my colleague put down the phone said, you know, this is actually too hot to hold against my head. owe put it down, plugged it in and it caught fire on the desk, his home desk. and he knocked it off of the desk and then it landed on the rug, of course, causing a fire

on the rug. >> reporter: martin bought this phone for one of his employees at his theater production company. he was on the other end of the line when this happened and he is one of the plaintiffs in the nation's first class action lawsuit that identifies other models as dangerous. the s6. s7 and note 5. >> consumers should not have to live in fair that they are walking around with a ticking time bomb in their pocket or that their phone is going to catch on fire and burst into flames in the middle of the night when they sleep. >> reporter: the lawsuit filed by a firm in folsom wants reimbursement and recall. >> samsung has been aware of problems and dangers with the lithium ion batteries going back years. >> reporter: it happened to dimitrius' phone in late 2015. >> i think it's important that we can't skip safety. i want more people to realize that these things are -- are volatile. they still use chemicals in the batteries and the safety is

number one. >> reporter: betty yu, kpix 5. >> this suit applies to people who bought phones in california over the last four years. samsung released a statement saying it doesn't comment on pending litigation. but it stresses issues with the galaxy note 7 are isolated to only that model. in marin county, an elderly man found peace at a local library after his wife died. and when john zimmer sensed his time was near he gave this place a massive check. after spending many days reading the newspaper at the larkspur branch, zimmer reasoned that $2 million sounded just about right. he divided the money between the three public libraries in marin county. employees say they will use it for educational programs and new technology. and the larkspur branch director plans to buy more books for zimmer's favorite section. >> we'll put more programming in books that he would approve of like mysteries. [ laughter ] >> before zimmer died last summer he also made sure

seniors in san rafael didn't go hungry. so he donated to whistlestop which offers meals and transportation. a lot of people in bodega bay are fed up with an abandoned fishing boat. it has fuel and they want it gone. it washed ashore in september. it's been sitting near the beach ever since. the owner was a criminal and fled. >> came in, have you seen the boat? you know the story? >> officials say it could cost up to $200,000 to remove it unless someone offers to pay for it so it will stay put. in san francisco thousands of cartoons finally have place to call home after months in little because the cartoon art museum just signed a 10-year lease on beech street by ghirardelli square. it had to leave its soma space when rent went up. they will have all the pieces

plus workshop, bookstore and classroom in the new space. it opens this spring. if the election is stressing you out and you need to relax next tuesday the weather channel has you covered. it wants you to cast your vote, go home and turn on your tv so you can see pictures like these. the 24-hour weather network plans to air nine hours of soothing videos and smooth jazz music. it's the first time the channel has offered calming election day viewing options. might help, right? >> we are going to be flipping the channels checking out different networks. >> of course. >> why don't they just set up the burning log? >> that's always nice, too,. >> hopefully it doesn't put people to sleep. we have a fun weather forecast. it's been really interesting in the past couple of weeks with the rain in the bay area. there's another small chance of rain back in the forecast on sunday. right now clear skies towards

the skyline of san francisco and coit tower. 40s and 50s. here's what you need to know on this thursday. it's going to be a pretty autumn day. seasonal temperatures today friday and saturday. and then by sunday early morning, we do have a slight chance of rain returning right here to the bay area. satellite and radar this is a potent area of low pressure but it's falling apart at the seams as it banks up against the northwestern quadrant of the state of california. we have most of the precipitation north of us as it gets up against this huge ridge of high pressure, a blocking ridge, diverting the rain well to the north. but what it is doing is churning up our surf. even though it wants to toss a few clouds to the forecast, according to futurecast, throughout our friday and then increase our cloud cover on saturday, the main feature of this area of low pressure happens to be the swells.

all westerly swells 20 to 27 feet, dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves. meanwhile onshore with high pressure the key component our temperatures topping off in the 60s and low 70s. up to about 75 degrees for the warmest location to morgan hill and gilroy. your official sunset tonight at 6:09. and by the time it does set, temperatures overnight tumbling back into the 40s and 50s. it's been a very cool start to your day the past couple mornings. meanwhile, your extended forecast does call for this. temperature outside number today 77 degrees. that will be towards the gilroy area. even warmer conditions by your friday. then the temperatures begin to drop somewhat with an approaching area of low pressure that will produce light rain showers on sunday. it will not interfere with the raiders game as they host the broncos on sunday evening. game time temperature into the 50s. otherwise, we do have daylight saving time coming to an end where we turn our clocks back one full hour 2 a.m. on sunday.

roqui, do you like the end of daylight saving time or like when it's brighter earlier or darker earlier? >> i like an extra hour's sleep. that's what i like so i'm okay with it. time now 4:51. let's check the traffic throughout the area. starting here in san leandro, some roadwork on northbound 880 is causing some serious trouble on the freeway here. cars moving in the area at just 5 miles per hour. so you're inching your way heading out, take 580 instead and avoid that area. now to the nimitz freeway live look 238 to the maze, that's where that roadwork is. it's going to take you up to 35 minutes right now. you guys, avoid it services you can. let's head out to the bay bridge toll plaza. carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will take you about 19 minutes. then expect no delays through the toll plaza. those metering lights will turn on at about 5:30 this morning. and also, oklahoma city thunder versus our golden state warriors tip-off at 7:30 p.m. tonight. so expect some delays on the nimitz freeway. i'll send it to you. >> all right, roqui.

the company says it had one- point-seven-nine billion active monthly users as of the end of facebook is nearing another big milestone. 2billion users. the company says it had 1.79 billion active monthly users at the end of the 3rd quarter. at 2 billion it would be more than a quarter of the current population of the world. uber is getting an update. one of the talked about features will let you find your

friends called the where to search. all you have to do is type in your friend's name from your contact list and the app will automatically find their location and send them a request. if they accept then uber will come pick you up and take you to them. the update is available in the next couple of weeks. nordstrom's says it will continue to sell ivanka trump's fashion line. a shopper started a petition asking the department store to take the line out of its stores. she says ivanka supports her father's campaign which is ultimately disrespectful to women allegedly. nordstrom officials said, it is not taking a political position. it goes on to say, its customers can make their own choices. you don't have to wait until black friday to get good shopping deals. major retailers like walmart and amazon both started promoting black friday deals. you can take advantage of them now. according to a national retail federation survey, this year holiday gift sales in november and december are expected to top $55 billion. that means the average person
